The Calumet County Sheriff's Department also teaches ATV Safety Classes. These classes have both a classroom portion and a riding portion.
Yes, I know. You are here to look at boats and not ATVs. But the Calumet County Sheriff's Department now offers All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Safety Classes. So far since 2002, we have taught 374 students the safe way to operate an ATV. Our May 2004 class set a new record with 86 students graduating! ATV instructors are invited to contact Deputy Rick Riemer for a free copy of the ATV PowerPoint presentaiton. The latest edition of the ATV PowerPoint presentation has video and a bonus ATV Jeopardy game. It's loads of fun and very informative.

ATVs get ready to go!!!
Our very first class had 80 students. Here you see some of the students getting their ATVs ready to hit the trail. We had an obstacle course and a trail ride for our class. |

Lotsa Mud equals Lotsa Fun!!!
Part of the fun of ATV riding is getting dirty. We had a very wet spring and our course ended up very muddy. We found out the dirtier we got, the happier we were.

Calumet County's ATV Instructors
Mike Shroeder, President of the Ox-Bow Sportsman Club, Deputy Rick Riemer, and Peggy Rusch, Steve's Fix it Shop, are Calumet County's only ATV instructors. Mike, Peggy and Rick are extremely dedicated to the sport of ATVing and are a terrific teaching team. Their team effort has resulted in the certification of 178 students since 2002. |

We Must Study!
Our students must study their material in order to pass the exam. They are aided by a Power Point presentation developed by Deputy Rick Riemer.

Proper Safety Equipment
Proper safety equipment such as a helmet, eye protection, long sleeved shirt or jacket, long pants, gloves, and boots are required for the riding portion of our class. We also stress the importance of being able to shift body weight to properly control an ATV. |
