The Calumet County Sheriff's Department Snowmobile Safety Patrol
The Calumet County Sheriff's Department runs a snowmobile safety patrol onthe trails and frozen bodies of water in Calumet County. We also teach snowmobile safety classes in the early winter months and are one of the few classes that can guarentee snow due to our partnership with Garvity Park, a moto-cross and sno-cross track located just north of Chilton Wisconsin. Gravity park made over 12" of snow for the 2003 class!
Calumet County Sheriff Department Snowmobile Patrol Deputies
Calumet County Sheriff's Department currently has seven Deputies that are qualified for snowmobile patrol duties. Of this group, two are certified Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources instructors. Deputy Rick Riemer completed the Snowmobile Safety Institute Snowmobile Police Patrol Operations Course held in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin. This course taught the basics of police patrol operations involving snowmobiles, and showed how different the snowmobile environment is from the marine and road law enforcement duties. Temperatures during this course fell down to minus 18 degrees, with 5 inches of snow.
Our Department runs two 1997 Polaris Indy 500 snowmobiles equipped with law enforcement and search and rescue equipment.
